Legal Fees & Retainers in Family Law Cases
Retainers are required for all family law cases. The retainer is collected at the intake appointment. Retainers are determined by the type of case and your specific situation. Please read: Minnesota Divorce Retainer to learn how a retainer works in a family law case.
Unfortunately, contingency fees are not permitted in family law cases. Instead, work is billed at an hourly rate. However, we carefully maintain time records and provide monthly invoices to our clients.
In addition, we differentiate between attorney services and paralegal services to reduce costs and also cover certain expenses. For instance, we do not bill separately for administrative costs of routine copies, routine mailings and postage fees, telephone services, or faxes. Instead, these case expenses are taken care of by the firm and included as part of our services to the client.
Our engagement letter and fee agreement thoroughly explains all our legal fees and policies in detail to encourage transparency and trust with our clients.
Payment Options
Payment options for legal services include cash, personal check, bank or cashier’s check, credit card, or debit card. Credit card and debit card payments can be taken over the phone, in the office, or online. We do not accept payment plans.
